Each girl at Foxcroft establishes a special, unique relationship with her faculty advisor. Through weekly meetings, shared meals in the Dining Hall or in the advisor’s home, and other activities, girls find their advisors to be a source of support away from home.
Last Friday evening, the International Gala and Bazaar was a festive finale for a weeklong celebration of our global connections during International Week. As participants took to the stage dancing, singing, and more, students and faculty alike gained a deeper appreciation for the diverse cultures represented in the Foxcroft community — with applause and cheers echoing out of FoxHound Auditorium past the Bazaar tables that filled the first floor of Schoolhouse.
The Foxcroft community happily spread holiday cheer last weekend. Beginning with reflections on community service and a campus-wide decorating party Friday evening and continuing through Santa’s entrance at the end of the traditional Christmas Pageant on Sunday, it was impossible not to be in the spirit of the season!
In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, the Spanish Club and Foxcroft community celebrated this year's theme “Deja tu Huella” (leave your mark), which was spoken about by the Spanish Club members. Many students spoke about those who have left a mark on them and how they will leave their mark on their community while explaining what the theme is truly about. The speeches were followed by an amazing Mexican dance known as “Balie Folklorico.” The performance was given by a dance group that was brought to perform by the mother of Samantha S. ‘27. Many thanks to her and the beautiful dancers!
Last Friday, October 13, Head of School Cathy McGehee kicked off Leadership Day with an interesting and informative presentation on Miss Charlotte’s vision for Foxcroft. Beginning with some fun facts about Miss Charlotte’s childhood, including that she generally disliked school, finding it boring, and having no interest in classes or studies, Mrs. McGehee cited Miss Charlotte's inspiration for opening Foxcroft — “School ought to be fun, study can be made interesting," she reportedly said — and so the School opened in 1914.
On Sunday, September 17, students from each dorm came together in the Leipheimer Gym to compete in the Battle of the Dorms Carnival. Students were dressed in their dorm colors and participated in several carnival games. They competed to win tickets from games like plastic ax throwing and an inflatable obstacle course. Every time a student won a game, they earned one ticket. One ticket equals one point towards the overall Battle of the Dorms competition. After students accumulated tickets, they put them in a jar for their dorm. Between games, students could grab popcorn, cotton candy, or a snow cone from the snack station.
